With the WNBA 2024 draft over now, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have found their destination for the next season in the WNBA. Clark was drafted by the Indiana Fever, whereas the Chicago Sky picked Reese. Clark and Reese were the face of women’s basketball for the past two seasons.

Texas Women’s Basketball’s Director of Player Development, Sydney Carter, talked about her views on Clark and Reese on ‘Way Up With Angela Yee.’ She discussed why women’s games are getting more eyeballs these days.

[01:08] “You’re seeing a lot more people put in their platform to be a generational talent like Caitlin Clark’s and Angel Reese’s like those are all generational talents and generational people,” Carter said. “But you’re seeing like more teams in the spotlight now like it’s not just like UConn’s and the Stanford’s from like when I played and I was growing up that’s what I always used to see.

“So, that’s where everybody thought they had to go now it’s Iowa, NC State, Texas. You know all these different schools are at the forefront of everything, so everybody’s popping now.”

Later in the show, Sydney discussed how women’s finals broke viewership records for men’s finals. The women’s between Iowa and South Carolina averaged 18.9 million views. Meanwhile, the men’s final between Purdue and UConn averaged approximately five million fewer views.

Tickets prices for Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese WNBA games have skyrocketed

The “Caitlin Clark Effect” can be felt in the WNBA as the ticket prices for the matchups between Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky have greatly increased.

Last year, the tickets for a similar matchup were available for a price as low as $19. However, it has changed as the former college basketball superstars have already started to take the WNBA to new heights.

For the game on June 1, the tickets at TicketMaster cost a minimum of $120; for the matchup on June 23, the minimum price of a ticket is $300.
