The ladies of The View took a united stand against what they deemed as disrespectful treatment of Gisele Bundchen during Tom Brady’s recent Netflix roast.
Tom Brady roasted the Chiefs and Taylor Swift in an edgy joke that got Swifties mad
Ana Navarro didn’t mince her words against the Netflix show
Airing on May 5th, “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady” quickly sparked outrage as jokes targeting Bundchen and her personal life took center stage.
During Monday’s episode of The View, the panel, led by Whoopi Goldberg, wasted no time diving into the controversy.
Ana Navarro, known for her unapologetic commentary, minced no words as she condemned the inclusion of Bundchen in the roast’s sarcastic banter.
Navarro emphasized that while comedy has its place, dragging an individual’s personal life into the spotlight, especially without consent, crosses a line.
“If I were getting paid what he was probably getting paid – he was an executive producer – I’d laugh at all sorts of things. But, I think the person who wasn’t getting paid and ended up being part of this roast was Gisele, and I think that’s a bad, lame thing to do to your ex-wife and mother to your children,”Navarro said.
Navarro showcased a recent video of Bundchen, visibly upset after being pursued by paparazzi, highlighting the toll public scrutiny takes on her.
“Leave Gisele the h— alone. Go make your money elsewhere,”Navarro passionately urged, calling out the insensitivity of targeting someone who isn’t even part of the event.
Sunny Hostin, the legal expert on the panel, echoed Navarro’s sentiments, stressing the importance of empathy and respect in comedy.
“I love comedy and I like to laugh, but not at people’s expense. That makes me uncomfortable,”
Hostin stated firmly, emphasizing the need for boundaries, especially when it comes to personal matters.
Bundchen was disappointed by show’s portrayal of her family
The hosts didn’t hold back in their criticism of Brady either.
Navarro suggested that Brady should share the earnings from the roast with Bundchen, highlighting the financial gain derived from poking fun at someone’s personal life.
Furthermore, Navarro pointed out Brady’s selective objection to certain jokes, such as those aimed at Patriots owner Robert Kraft, while seemingly ignoring Bundchen’s discomfort.
In response to the backlash, sources close to Bundchen revealed her disappointment with the disrespectful portrayal of her family during the roast.
The source told PEOPLE that Gisele was “deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show.”
They continued saying “As always, [Bündchen’s] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted.”
Bundchen, known for her philanthropic efforts, has been actively involved in relief efforts for the devastating floods in her home state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
As the discourse of Netflix’s show rages on, the ladies of The View are just some of the people who stand firmly in solidarity with Gisele Bundchen, advocating for respect and dignity in comedy.
